Lone Shadow
The door you opened in me…
you’re not even standing in it with me.
It’s as if I’d knocked.
You answered in a rush-
enthusiastic but flustered.
Then said “hold on a second!
I have to take my food out of the oven!”
Ran back to the kitchen
With me still standing in the frame
Unsure whether to walk in
or wait for you to come back
But you said “hold on”
So I did.
I think in your flurry
Your mind in a hurry
You must’ve remembered more things
you’d forgotten before I showed up.
Cause I’m sure the food’s out the oven
It’s been half an hour
I’m still in the frame
And you’re somewhere,
probably bothered?
And I’m probably overstaying a welcome
I hadn’t even received yet
Still waiting outside.
I think I’m gonna go.
It’s embarrassing to be forgotten twice.
